Whether you are a beginner golfer or a veteran, you should know that tournament preparation is a HUGE part in your golf success! The average professional/ Collegiate golfer spends between 4- 6 hours per day practicing and getting mentally prepared for tournament play!
Whether we are at the gym, visiting a sports psychologist, or at the golf course, ETC. When it comes to preparation, it definetly is, and will be a strategic process that once you get a routine going… It never really changes after that!
Stating this, I decided to write about tips and tricks on what to do if you are looking for ideas to successfully prepare for your next golf tournament!
1) Practice makes Perfect!
I am sure this is very obvious! BUT, it is important to practice as much as you can! No matter if you have a limited schedule.. If you really want something, you will find a way to get things done!
Also, while practicing, be sure to work on not only the shots that you are good with, but be able to practice those UNCOMFORTABLE shots too!! I like to do this alot because when you go out to play in tournaments in general… Sometimes you may come across that similar UNCOMFORTABLE shot that you were practicing during tournament prep, and that will make you SUPER confident and more calmer during actual tournament play!
2) Gather a Tournament Routine
Find out what you are going to do before you even step on to the golf course! Are you going to arrive at the course an hour before your tee time? Are you going to just stay on the putting or pitching area? Or are you even going to warm up at all?
Are you going to listen to music while warming up, or not? Those are some things to adjust and/ or think about before tournament play!
3) Get everything done the day BEFORE..
There is nothing worse than forgetting something you need for tournament, or trying to hurry and run around the morning off because you cant find something!
Stating this, in order to keep your self calm and relaxed, and focused.. Have everything you NEED for your tournament at LEAST by the day before!
4) Just Relax
Finally, you have practiced, gathered a solid routine, and are as prepared as you can possibly get!
Stating this, its time to just RELAX, and try not to stress because you are ready!
Now, take the time to meditate, and do some yoga poses, or take that run that will keep your nerves in check!
Thank you for reading, and hopefully you are able to find this tips useful! 🙂
