Tips on how to play better golf
Golf is an AMAZING sport, that I have had the opportunity to have in my life. It has opened many doors for me since the day my Dad first Introduced me to the sport!
It has taken me through High school, College, playing at the Professional level, and more! I often find myself getting asked ” How to break 80’s in Golf”? Stating this, I am going to explain my process as to how I have broken the 80’s , and even the 70’s. But I believe the process for these MILESTONES in golf, are relatively the SAME when you finally break your new records of scores.
Learn how to putt and chip
It is EXTREMELY important to first realize SHORT game is what saves you! Stating this, you MUST work on it, and get the feel for shots around the green. This includes things like : Bunker shots, 50YDS, downhill, up hill shots, and more of just learning to be CREATIVE with your golf shots. This also includes PUTTING!!! You will be surprised as to how often the short game including putting area is neglected.
A great putting drill to include in your daily practice is 3ft,6ft,9ft,12ft, and LAG putts.
Get golf lessons near you
Unless you are like Bubba Watson or want to just simply give yourself an extra challenge(NOT SAYING IT”S NOT POSSIBLE FOR YOU!!! JUST MIGHT TAKE A LITTLE LONGER), I would recommend investing with yourself in a Golf Instructor. I have had a golf instructor my whole golf career. It is very important to find someone who you click with , and understands completely what your expectations and goals are. So there is nothing wrong with trial period of experiencing different teachings of PGA/LPGA golf instructors to see which one will best meet your needs when it comes to leveling up your golf game. Nowadays, you can just simply look online to find certified golf instructors in your area.
Golf Tips Mental game:
Get out your head
As you start playing golf more and more. You will start to see that you can beat your self simply with just being in your own head! One of the Greats Jack Nicklaus said it best:
“The game of golf is 90% mental and 10% physical”
So if you are starting to compete it is important to analyze your mental game just as much as your physical. EX: Are you keeping negative thoughts on your mind? Are you automatically taking yourself out the game because of risk of failure? OR do you have a hard time staying in the present, because you think either too much into the past of a bad/ or good shot? Or you think too much into the future with bad/ good thoughts. One thing I have learned is you HAVE to stay in the present during your golf rounds.. No matter if you had a good or bad hole, shot, etc!! You just have to!
When it comes to this its is important to get it figured out so it is not affecting you as much or any at all anymore. There are a lot of books, and vision 54, and I know it might seem hard at first.. But just simply just not worrying about your scores is a helpful tip to stay out of your head!
